MD, PhD Director of Science
A qualified medical doctor and trained orthopaedic surgeon in China, Jia Hua completed his PhD in Orthopaedics at the University College London, UK. An expert in the development of endoprosthetic joint replacements, Jia has developed CAD-CAM patient-specific hip implants in collaboration with orthopaedic surgeons at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and other hospitals in UK, and these have been successfully translated into clinical application and directly benefited thousands of osteoarthritis patients.
For many years, Jia has concentrated on regenerative medicine, including research into bone tissue engineering around revision hip implants where osteolysis and aseptic loosening of implants has occurred. He has also used mesenchymal stem cells to enhance the healing of the non-union bone fracture and has carried out research work on rehabilitation engineering, medical images, surgical navigation and robotic-assisted surgery, 3D scaffold and biomaterials, metal 3D-printing, additive manufacture and biomechanics.
Jia has collaborated nationally and internationally with universities, industries and healthcare providers on ground-breaking research, making a significant contribution to scientific knowledge.
